Schweighofer Piano
A bout the piano:
J. M. Schweighofer's Soehne in Wien, grand piano,178cm long, straight strung, 85 keys (7 octaves), with compound frame (metal bars and hitch pin plate), serial number 3326, built approx. in 1867. It has a rare English type repetition action, which is unusual for a Viennese piano of that period.
Information regarding Schweighofer pianos can be found here.
P ictures:
A ction & hammers:
The piano has a type of English action with a repetition device. Below is a picture of it, with some drawing added to show the parts which couldn't be photographed. The small lever with a spring on the right side of the jack has the purpose of lifting the hammer butt, allowing the jack to re-engage before the key is completely released. It seems to work just like the repetition lever of a Herz-Erard type action.
The hammer flanges are adjustable, being tightened with a screw.
The hammers have several layers of felt and leather. The outer layer is leather, and the reddish brown layer could be leather too.
